Video FX not working

Lili wrote on 1/27/2005, 6:42 AM
I have Vegas 5, but my Editing Workshop DVD tutorials (by Spot) are Vegas 4.0 as no V5's were yet available at time of purchase.

In the tutorial, Spot merely drags and drops the effect on the event and it is seen immediately in the preview window. I have been dragging till I drop, but it's not "hapning". (ha ha). What am I missing? Is there some major difference with V5?
Thanks for any help.
Lili

Depends on what has the focus. If you use an external monitor and that is activated, then the preview window won't update. The reverse is also true.

What you also need to do is check for the visual cue, that what you dropped in fact ended up on the event. If it did, then the even't FX indicator turns green. If not, a good chance your FX ended up on the track FX and its indicator turned green. You can tell by looking at the details. If I tend to work too fast sometimes, I can end up with multiple copies of some FX on the track, instead of them being dropped on the event as I wanted.

When you don't see the effect in the preview window, it's usually one of two things:

1) You have "Split Screen View" turned on and it's bypassing the FX (it's a button above the preview window)

2) You are changing a keyframe that does not affect there the cursor is currently located.

I'd guess #1 in this case.

Make sure you have your Preview Window Toolbar visible. Right click on Preview Screen > Pop up menu > Show Toolbars . . plus, in the same Pop up, "Show Status" is good for checking too!

Yipee! It was #1 - Split Screen View thingy - thanks a mill for saving me from any further frustration with this guys! Let's hope I don't go effects crazy now to make up for lost time.
