Turn OFF the "SPlit Screen" view. It's the circle that's half dark half light just above the preview screen. You have it set to "Bypass Effects" - which it is doing quite well.

Who would have thought? Thank you SO MUCH. I have been using Vegas since version 4 and have never seen that or needed to use it. And, why is that ever there? Anyway, I am fine now. thanks again. :o) Roger

It's there for 2 reasons:
1) the split screen lets you compare with and without VFX simultaneously;
2) turning it off allows preview to run more quickly than when processing VFX, without you having to go in and switch of each effect.

I use the on/off for evaluation on the external monitor of grading changes.

Also it's very useful for matching CC between 2 different video clips. You can have one clip in the left, and a different clip in the right so you can match the CC as need be, without jumping back and forth.
