I have the same problem. Render material from DV camcorder to DVD (PAL mainconcept) leads to the emergence of random black screen. The problem occurs with me, only version 8.1 of Vista x64. In 32-bit (8.0c) everything works without errors

<<the render gets about 5% into the render and the picture goes black - in the preview window AND in the rendered file.>>

Encountered the same issue yesterday with MPEG 1 files in Veg 8.1. In my case, certain clips turned either green or red on the timeline and displayed as black in the Preview window, while others still played and displayed correctly.

My solution was to save the project, close Vegas, then restart Veg and reopen the project. The first time I tried this I noticed that a different set of clips had problems. The third time I tried this they all looked fine on the timeline, and they rendered fine as well.

So basically, the third time is the charm, I guess.

Thanks for your responses. It's good to know I'm not losing my mind. The 'black outs' or sometimes red frames in the timeline only occur on my Vista 64 system with 8.1. My XP system with 8.0c is fine.

I've tried saving and restarting with inconsistent results. It's really frustrating because I can't rely on the Vista system.
