Video is Horrible, Can't figure out why.

Not being a professional video editor guy, I don't even know the terminology to use here. I'll do my best.

I have just purchased and installed Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11. I feel fairly comfortable moving around in it, but many things are still unfamiliar to me. I have a couple questions, but I put both here as they may be related.

THE CAPTURE

Using Logitech C910 HD webcam. Capable of 1920x1080p @ 30fps. CODEC is IYUV.

[problem #1] Sony's capture software does not see the codec IYUV and cannot be set to 1920x1080p at 30fps. So I am unable to use this tool.

Solution for now .. I used DEBUT software. It supports the IYUV and 1920x1080p @ 30fps. It captures the video quite nicely.

Here is the link to the source video capture from DEBUT: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7673174/test2-src.avi

THE PROJECT

I create a new project using "based on source video" for settings. I tried to follow these instructions:
http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

The only element in the project is the capture from above.

PREVIEW of the video -- it is horrible, ugly, ridiculous.

I rendered the video from Vegas and it can be seen here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7673174/test2.mp4

I have no idea why this video is being destroyed or how to fix it. It doesn't preview nicely, it doesn't render nicely.

Please help me sort this out. I've spent hours upon hours on this. I don't want to waste anyone's time.

NOTE: My ultimate goal is to have videos in HD for Youtube and Vimeo.

For Vimeo, 720x480 at 6-8 Mbps is ideal.
You should pick up some pointers by watching the "Good" method in our tutorial:

Thank you. There are a lot of useful getting started tips in here. I appreciate it.

Turns out, though, the trouble I was having is related to the original video. If I created it as an mpeg4 inside a .AVI format, it was causing trouble. But if I created the same mpeg4 video inside a .mp4 format, it works perfectly.

I don't know why this is an issue. But it is simple enough to not use .AVI when I create my source videos.

Again, thanks for the pointers via the video.
