Video lose quality when imported in Vegas Pro 20

Matteo-Erdas wrote on 1/17/2023, 6:11 AM

I would like to use a video recorded with my Motorola Smartphone but when I import it on Vegas pro 20 I lose quality on the sequence of frames, let's say I lose fluidity. The same loss of quality obviously also remains in the export of the edited video. This is the Media info of the source file. Could anyone help me? thanks

Something's quite off with the framerates it's reporting:

Minimum frame rate                       : 15.000 FPS

Maximum frame rate                       : 10 000.000 FPS

Original frame rate                      : 30.000 FPS

Maybe try re-encoding to constant framerate with Handbrake or Shutter Encoder and see if that works better in Vegas.

Your video has been recorded at Variable Frame Rate (VFR) which, for many, is a frame rate that Vegas Pro doesn't like and likely explains poor timeline performance. The regular advice given on the forum over many years re VFR is to transcode your footage to Constant Frame Rate (CFR) via a transcoder such as HandBrake.

Maybe you could upload a clip to a sharing site so we could download it and see how we get on with it?

Ok I try to transcode it with HandBrake. The problem now is: How should I configure HandBrake to keep the original quality of the video and at the same time convert it for Vegas Pro 20 use? thanks

An easier to use app is Shutter Encoder for this purpose. Shutter Encoder has also the advantage that it has dozens of other features which makes it the Swiss Knife for every serious video editor.

Try the production standard preset and in the video tab go to constant framerate. In advanced set keyint= your framerate (30, 60, etc.) keyint=60:keyint_min=1 for example.

Give it a decent enough bitrate- though that depends on source material quality. For RF 23 is average and something like 17-20 extra bitrate.
