Video missing

I deleted Quicktime from my computer. Upon opening a previous project in Vegas, 3 sections of the video are missing and I get an error message about missing portion and what do I want to do. There are 3 choices about ignoring the missing files, find the missing files, and something else I can't remember. I loaded Quicktime back on and the files are there again. How do I get rid of Quicktime without corrupting this movie file?
Thanks,
Ron

Why? - I mean, why the need to get rid of quicktime? Just asking before I mention alternatives (easier to help when knowing the reason)

Don't use it and I only needed it for a quickie trip to my recording studio for some voiceover work. The studio uses Digital Performer and I needed quicktime to give him a version of the movie to use on his Apple platform. Have since figured out a differrent way and don't need yet another program filling up my hard drive.

What extension are your files? They're not, say .mov or other format utilised by q'time are they?

Vegas uses Quicktime at various levels, so you will need to get it back.

What about the posibility of "quicktime alternative" could be enough to get going without q'time if it's really not wanted?

thoughts?

No, this quicktime alternative is for codecs for playback. Vegas uses the API/libs of Apple's quicktime in particular, so no alternative will work (unless they provide an SDK and exact library/symbol names). If this guy wants Vegas to work correctly, he needs the real quicktime.

I didn't even have quicktime when I made this movie. Why would deleting it cause the missing files. Did quicktime glom onto a particular file? The weird thing is there are other files in this movie shot with the same video camera that are still there. Why's that?

Your problem might just be that you deleted the files accidentally. Or changed their names or their folder.

Nope. The only thing that changed was deleting Quicktime! I tried it 3 times just to make sure. Quicktime on the puter...everything fine. Quicktime deleted...files missing.

ok, then. Just reinstall quicktime and be done with it.
