Video Noise Generation

Can anyone suggest a technique to generate additive video noise of known characteristics? I've played with the "Add Noise" FX and it's useful. But, there's not much information on it's characteristics. Ideally, I'd like to simulate a particular SNR, or at least control the parameters of a noise generator. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim

I've never been able to find a way to get a believable static out of the media generators, filters, or combination thereof. Close, but no cigar. So, I simply use stock footage. With the Pixelan SpiceFilters, you can get very close, particularly with 2 layers of media keyed over the other using the Pixelan key option.
