Video Noise/Static

Mostly done machinima so far using SV, family asks me to import some ancient videos and I figure "what the haliburton"

Me being a stickler for good video the static in the video is driving me nuts and I haven't found a good way to reduce it yet. I'm not used to having to mess with that kind of stuff. Suggestions of Video FX plug-ins to use? If nothing obvious a web page that I can read up on this, or some pointers would be appreciated. Everything I've found online thus far is for audio noise :-/

There is no single solution for video noise because there are so many types of noise. You call your noise "static." This makes me think of little white sparkles, like you used to see when a vacuum cleaner was running on the same circuit as a TV. If so, you need some specialized cleaning. If you can post a still shot of what a single frame looks like, I can be more specific.

For other types of noise, most people use or recommend the free Mike Crash filter or the Neat Video plugin for Vegas. Search these forums and you'll find dozens and dozens of post.

Thanks for the prompt reply John!

My initial search of the forums was a bit too verbose to come up with anything useful, I'll try narrowing the search more to aid myself along.

Also, the static is from a Betamax tape that's beginning to get fuzzy (Sony should be proud of that one!)

Here's the link for a pic of the static, it has a tendency to drift up slowly during the video.

Try the Mike Crash or Neat Video noise filters (Neat has a free demo download). They may work. If not, I have some AVISynth scripts that will nail it, but AVISynth is a tool not for the faint of heart.
