video preview

Hello every body.

I'm posting this message hoping that someone will help me. I have serious video preview problem : when I do a simple fade between two tracks the frame rate goes down at aproximately to 6 img / s And that's pretty awful !
Of course this is without pre rendering the transition but I think this isn't normal ! I would more understand if I've been doing some kind of fat blurry effect ! this upset me very much because this is the only problem I have with that software otherwise its pretty good ! (even for heavy professionnal working)

My configuration :
AMD ATHLON 1800+
512 Mo ddr 2700
4 80 Go HDD 7200 TR
RADEON 7500 DUAL HEAD
etc...
I use for the moment the demo version, but I will buy it surely if I find a answer...

Thanks a lot

I would suggest you get a faster computer if you want better frame rates in your preview. That is pretty normal for slower systems to have a low frame rate like that. You should use a Ram Render if you want to see exactly what it will look like. Even on my P4 and XP 2500+ systems I get around 20 fps or so the first time I play a crossfade, then the more I play it, the cleaner it gets.

You can also try doing a defrag on your hard drive and making sure you have minimal programs running in the background.

I just tried dropping two DV clips on the timeline and overlapping them. On the first playback i got 29.970fps until the crossfade and then it dropped to about 10.6 to 10.9 during the crossfade. This is on an 866MHz P3 system. On my 2.0GHz P4 at work i think it's usually around 20.

What do you have your preview window set for? If i set the quality to Best then my computer has a hard time keeping up full frame rate on a straight clip with no crossfade. Also Auto sizing in a smaller window will play faster than Full size.

I use a p866 and i can watch previews with colourcurve, colour correction, velocity env and fade effects and its totally watchable.

BUT only at small res - but it does work at best quality. IF i pump it via i1394 to my miniDV and then to a TV it goes down to 8fps.
