Video Preview Expectations

Just checking to see what kind of results other people get from previewing in Vegas. My system begins to bog down even after a dissolve and opacity change on some clips. If I scrub the timeline just to check a scene and especially if I make a change such as opacity while it contines to play. On good (auto) it dips down to about 12 fps and doesn't recover very easily even after stopping.

I look at task manager and teh system is only at about 30% but vegas begins to choke. I have a decent system but was checking if this is normal.

If you have effects you would like to preview, I would recommend selecting the part of the clip(s) you are interested in, then select the menu option Tools\Selectively Prerender Video. It will render some of the more intensive effects. After it is complete, you should see some real-time display of the resulting video.

I've noticed that Windows XP acts like it's writing your preview RAM to the page file if you set the RAM setting too high. Should be fine if you keep it down under 500MB.

Could this be the problem?
