Video Preview Not Workingish on Second Monitor weirdness

Bria wrote on 12/26/2024, 5:15 PM

Just got Vegas 21-315 Pro thank u HB

But got a prob.

Intro: I have two very large TVs which I use as monitors. A 4k primary monitor DP->HDMI and a 1080 HDMI->HDMI secondary monitor, I could have the connection method the wrong way round. Nvidia GTX 1080 with 5M odd cable.

When I run Vegas on the 4K and select view preview on external monitor it is displayed on top right of the 4K monitor.

Looking in prefs->preview device the 1080 is 'device connected' and selected. When I press ID displays all I get is a vertical green bar two thirds of the way across the 4k monitor.

When I run Vegas on the 1080 and select view preview on external monitor works fine and the preview is display on the 4K monitor. The only strangeness is when I click ID display I get a half height vertical green bar a third of the way into the 4K mon at the top of display. On the 1080p I get a sort of curved green bar that starts 15% into the display at the bottom and end 15% from the end of the display at the top, I'm guessing this might be a '2' with out it's bottom and top bits missing.

My previous video editor had no problems with my setup and I could run it on either monitor and preview on the other.

My 2 thoughts are:

1) Vegas does not like one monitor been DP->HDMI and one been HDMI->HDMI

2) Vegas cannot cope with using monitors with different resolutions

Any other thoughts, if it is one of the above two not an easy fix for me.

You checked alternate high DPI in preferences/display?

Vegas can cope with 2 monitors, at least on my computer build listed in my Signature below. Like @Gid, I too have a 4K monitor and a 1080 hooked up. I think @RogerS suggestion should solve the problem.

No, but I have now and that fixes it for Vegas on the 4K and 1080p as preview mon but breaks it for Vegas on the 1080p, you can not see all of it, and the 4K as the preview mon.

It seem that if I want to run Vegas on 4K mon and preview 1080p I have to have alt high dpi checked but if I want to run Vegas on 1080p and 4K as preview alt high dpi has to be unchecked! This is very inconvenient as not only do you have to access the menu but you also have to restart Vegas when checking/unchecking.

I did not have to do this with my old program, you could just put what window you wanted on what ever monitor you want and it just works. I'm working with to large monitors 75" and 60" so positioning is an issue, hence when editing I want Vegas on the 75" and when review the out I want that on the 75" hence all the swooping around.

Does anyone else have this problem.

See pix.

Vegas on 60 Not using alt high dpi - Good

Vegas on 60 using alt high dpi - Bad

Vega on 75 Not using alt high dpi - bad

Vegas on 75 using alt high dpi - good

But do you have to turn alt high dpi on/off when you want to run Vegas on different monitor and preview on different monitor like I have to? See my post above.

And v thanks for pic

With one high DPI and one non-high DPI monitor I turn off the high DPI scaling entirely. Neither screen looks quite right but at least menus aren't massive.

With two non-high DPI monitors of mismatched resolutions I use high DPI scaling with the alt mode and that takes care of the spillover onto the other screen.

No this isn't ideal and I hope VEGAS redoes multimonitor support.

I decide what is always going to be my editing monitor. That is the better monitor, especially since I edit only 4K.

If you want to switch, you have to go to Preview device and decide which monitor you want.

Again, I prefer to edit on the monitor that gives me the most real estate and the better preview. But that's me.
