Video preview window error

Hello

I’m having problems using the video preview window in Vegas Video 4.0.

When I try to play something I get the following error message:

>>An error occurred while starting playback.
>>An invalid device was specified.
>>The playback device does not support the current output format.
>>The playback device does not exist.

Has anyone experienced the same problem and know how to avoid this?

Thank you.

Are you sure you haven't got the "Preview on External Monitor" selected? - It's the little TV set icon on the Preview Toobar. - These errors messages - IMHO - appear to be related to using an external device.

If not - I've no idea . . .

Grazie

arne: what sound card are you using?

Currently I'm using the one integrated with my motherboard. I think it is a VIA AC'97 chipset.

I was thinking thas my problem is perhaps related to a codec conflict. Perhaps other codecs that I have installed prevent the codec used by vegas to function normally. I have tried to remove most of these other codecs but no luck som far :(

Probably also see this with Audigy2 (& other creative?) depending on what settings, which drivers you've chosen under preferences. Normally treat it as an anoyance, utter a quick expletive (not deleted), and move on.

Did you ever get this problem fixed?

I am having the exact same problem with Screenblast MovieStudio 3.0 and I am still looking for a solution.

Thanks,
Dan Cox
