Video rendering seems to take for ever

Does anyone have any idea as to why it takes so long for me to render, Im creating AVI's using camtasia and applying the audio in a wav format. When I render the final product as an avi using techsmith codec the file is one huge!!! and it took 20 minutes to render an 8 minute video. when I render these using camtasia studio it only takes a few minutes. Any one have any suggestions,

Depends on many things--filters, plugins, transitions, etc. Vegas is known for its speed of editing projects, not rendering them.

Many of us render at night. While we're asleep, the 'puter is churning away! ;o)

The codecs that come with Camtasia are all progresssve (non-interlaced). If you are rendering to an interlaced format (for non-computer video) there is a lot of processing involved.

When I created my Vegas Video Editing DVDs, it took over 100 hours of rendering, but this also had to do with my capture resolution which I got better at controlling towards the end of the project.

As VideoCurmudgeon said, many things can affect render time. Some things, like Supersampling can make the times go astronomical (and often with very little impact on the final result). The same thing goes for changing the render quality from Good to Best.
