Video scaling issue

Hello all,
I've been working with Vegas a while but I'm newer to DVDA. My issue is that when I put my video media in the timeline the playback is outside the safe margins and I don't know if or how to get it to size up correctly.
This is on playback with preview or after a DVD render.
I hope I'm just missing a toggle somewhere in the program.
I could really use an olive branch from some kind Architect user out there. Thanks

Video outside the safe margins is just a fact of life when it comes to producing content destined for television. When people film (videotape) things, they simply keep the safe zone in mind (assuming their camera has safe zone guides, or they just eyeball it) and do their best to keep the important stuff within the action safe zone (the outter box). And when they create their titles and DVD menu buttons, they do their best to keep those within the title safe zone (the inner box).

It's not really a good idea to keep everything within the safe zones, because that will leave some viewers with a big black border around your video if their TV shows a larger area than is comparable to your safe zones. (For example, some high-end televisions, as well as computer monitors.)

The general rule, as implied above, is if the audience doesn't have to see that little bit that's outside the safe zone, then don't worry about it.

If it's something like a photo with a person that's likely to get cut off or something like that, then I would generally use Pan / Crop or track motion to resize or move the image to a more appropriate position and make sure there's some kind of attractive background behind it. (Letterboxing or pilloring where it's really not necessary is a pet peeve of mine.) Often, I'll use an photo editing program to give a picture a proper lookingn matte so that the image is completely visible.
