Video sync issues with Vegas???

I'm using Vegas 7 with
Microsoft windows xp pro
service pack 2

dual core amd opteron processor 2210
1.80 GHz, and 3.00 GB of RAM

Using either a canopus box or a sony DV deck to take a video signal out of the firewire port to a Toshiba Regza 52" flat screen tv via RCA. The video file is an NTSC DV AVI file that was rendered in Vegas.

Sync is inconsistent. Sometimes it is on and sometimes it is off. I'm trying to use Vegas as sound for film, so it is VERY important that sync is on. I have tried messing with the sync offset, but the problem is that the sync drifts, it is not consistently on or off.

What is going on? Anyone have a clue?

How does the rendered file play on your computer in WMP or other players?

Are you playing the preview from the Vegas timeline through the firewire as your external monitor?

Really that is just a preview, but if the timeline plays correctly and in sync on your primary display monitor, it would indicate the problem lies somewhere downstream of there in your hardware.

I am using the IEEE OCHI compliant bit, not a secondary monitor. While the preview is enabled, my primary display monitor also goes out of whack sometimes. The problem is not consistent, and that is very frustrating.

I do not believe it is the hardware, because I had the same setup besides the computer before, and it worked fine...

playback in all players is fine.
