Vasst.com offers a large amount as does Class on Demand and Vegas Training and Tools. I know I have missed others. I am currently in the middle of authoring an e-learning site for Vegas and will add VP10 items once they are released.
My site will not appeal to most because it is not just put in a DVD and watch. It is in fact an on-line class with reading, videos, and projects. It has been stalled for two weeks because my financial situation has collapsed, but I will continue work on it shortly.
Most of the training out there will be focused on VP8 with updates for VP9. That is because 8 was an important point in VP. Training on Vegas Pro 10 will filter out after its release. Only SCS can release training on that before then.
If anything advance training. Yes...they do have training. But we are looking for advance training and real world projects. When you look at Boris TV, Zawerks, FCP, AE and Premiere. They use real world training. Most on training I see on Vegas are examples. Using sample media and generate media.
What do you consider real world examples? Unfortunately, using raw video from Law and Order, Avatar is very expensive for training videos that are mostly provided for free. My last one, I used a home video for the source. My clients do not permit the use of their property most of the time.
Give me some examples and I will try to see what I can do. I have a lot of tutorials in the works right now.
We will soon be releasing a new Seminar Series (available on DVD and via download) for Vegas Pro 10, that will cover the features that are new to Vegas Pro 10.
Well...that could be the problem. I want to see demos like the new Sony Vegas Pro 10 introduction video; Sony software professional product line up video of 2009 and the Sony Vegas Pro 8…Why Vegas Pro 8 demo? I applause these videos!!!
Now...what level of those demos was cut in Vegas? Or are they using another program to edit those demos. I’d already know the Vegas 3 D box had to be made in 3 D program. Was it Cinema 4 D or 3 D Studio Max?
Okay…I want see them take that demos apart and show us how to recreate those videos. Even if it starts in a 3 D program then edited back in Vegas. I see they added quick blurs and velocity envelope were used.
Video Copilot, Avid TV, and Boris etc. These are the sites except for Adobe. That really grew their video tutorial divisions in the last few years. What I want to see is advance 3D motion, alpha transfer modes, and multi level nesting projects. I know, I probably using less than 15% of Vegas powerful features. The Vegas team needs to create these types of tutorials.
1. Shown me the TNT 3 D motion freeze frame still effect they are using to promote all their TV programs.
2. Do you know how to recreate the text effects that they rotate and reposition Up and Down?
3. How do you recreate that reveal illustration effects with animation lines going into another scene with the camera tracking the lines?
Moreover,I already know some these effects are created using AutoDesk Smoke for some of these programs.
Most people miss the great videos that are here on this site for some reason. The links in the admin post, including the YouTube channel are great resources. If you follow the automated tutorials in Vegas itself, watch the videos linked in admin's post, you will have a nice foundation in Vegas.
Thank you!!! That's what I been waiting for. You are guys are right there. You have the potential to get a lot of this market. And the lead in uniqueness and cool factor. I see all the new people using Vegas... Well, its really amazing just over in 4 years on how many video tutorials of Vegas that just popup on YouTube. But like I said; most are basic beginner videos.
Yes...I love what Digital Juice and VASST is doing. In other news just now like clock work BorisTV just send me another new video demo. Avid,Boris and Video Copilot send outs a new demo video once or twice a week.
I am glad to hear news of Vegas Pro training videos.
Let me clarify myself.... Real World are Real Projects. For examples TV Commercials or Film Trailers. I would like to see samples of TV Commercials or Trailer, then show how it was created. That type of training gives me an idea on how present it in a different way.
Recently I was watching John Dickerson using Pro Animator on recreating the Fast and Furious opening movie title.
Also Andrew Kramer did that same thing for Video Copilot next software release. His demo sold me to buy the product. But what was smart, Andrew put the training demo on the DVD on how recreate that same trailer. Andrew build the audio part in Vegas Pro and finished the graphic part in Adobe Affect Effects.
I like the new Sony Vegas Pro 10 intro, which was a beautiful opening. The music and the audio effects were great and set the tone of the video. Now, that demo sold me on waiting to buy version 10. Would they consider in the future on making tutorials how Vegas 8,9 and 10 was edited?
Those demos are what I consider advance video. This is the type of videos I strive to make.
Thanks for these video links! ForumAdmin? This is great.
I had no idea these videos even existed.
Here are some thoughts for Sony that may help with new folks.
I remember what it was like...and still have some of the overwhelm
of jumping from Adobe Premiere elements 2 to Vegas.
As a newbie to video editing i was very intimidated.
When i first got Vegas 6 i went to lynda.com to get training.
It was good but as a newbie i wanted as much training as possible upfront.
I remember searching all over the web and youtube for a while looking for different people using the same features to get multiple perspectives of what is possible with even the basic features.
It seemed to get to a point where i couldnt find what i needed fast enough so i would default to Adobe PE 2 because i knew how to do stuff there and couldnt figure out how to do it in Vegas within a short period of time.
I got so frustrated that i just hired a video editor to handle my projects.
He used Liquid as he was one of the developers of it...then he bought a Mac and went FCP.
It really was a good thing in the long run because he was so good that i have gotten many editing contracts over the last few years. I just filmed 10 days worth of seminar...2 camera....and am editing it now through email and phone calls:-)
So here i am making good money editing....but not because i got intimidated and overwhelmed when i got stuck and two days later i still couldnt figure out what to do.
I want to dive into editing again as i want to be able to work on smaller projects while my editor is working on the big ones. Otherwise it can be months.
I have tried many other editors who mainly use FCP but they didnt work out as they couldn't figure out the .mts .m2ts and the .m2t formats i get from my Sony Cameras.
I am ready to jump back in with Vegas 10 and see what happens...i just want to make sure i have some visual ( not text ) support...and it looks like it is there now or being modified.
I am a marketer and can see a HUGE opportunity for Sony Vegas to bring in many new customers if they would develop some kind of Newbie training system.
Make it friendly and welcoming...and as easy as possible. Let people spread the word because it is inviting to the new person.
When i first got Vegas i felt like a Grade school kid in College. I used to wonder how all the folks on the forum got so good. I used to be afraid to ask questions for fear of looking like an idiot.
I may be unique with this experience but i dont think so...and that tells me there is a lot of potential business out there.
Lastly...to be fair...most of my bad experiences with editing cam from buying the Serious Magic software back in 2004. All the hours and frustrations and new equipment....and in the end when Adobe bought them out....i find out how bad the software really was...and i thought it was me and my equipment.
Sorry to ramble a bit...hope this helps someone figure out how to make it easier for entry level Vegas 10 buyers.
I see a lot money sitting on the table for someone knowledgeable enough to create a Newbie program for Vegas or any NLE.
Video is just going to keep getting bigger.
Thanks for listening!
Mark
PS A well SEO'd webpage with all these resources on one page could be a nice niche business in itself...and a way to promote your business.
