Video8 transfer:methodology ?

I'm transferring a few video8 tapes in my system to edit with Vegas5.
I'm using a Hauppauge unit I borrowed to a friend (winTVpvr2) to do so. It gives me mpg2 files I then render to AVI files into Vegas but the problem is that I get one clip per tape.
No problem so far, I kind of "log" the interesting sequences using markers on the timeline.
Then, I run the script "Markers to Regions" but the titles of markers disapear.

I'd like to know if there is a script around that will make these two things:
1-create Clips between my Markers , while ...
2-conserving the titles I've put on these markers into the newly created Clips?
I've looked at a few links but no such thing.

Any suggestion that I've probably overlooked into the whole process?

First of all, you are better off using the pass-through on your camcorder, so you can record directly to DV. You will eliminate the unnecessary render to AVI in Vegas, and the quality will be much better.

Second, I have TONS of scripts that I've either written or modified to change markers to regions, add regions to events, and more. However, I am not quite sure what you mean by wanting to "create Clips between my Markers." Are you wanting to put things into the Trimmer? Are you trying to create events? I need some help here.

I have a Markers to Regions script that preserves the names. I just ran it to make sure it runs in Vegas 6.0d, and it does (it ran in 5.0d as well). Send me an email, and I can give you as many scripts as you want, once I know what you're looking for.

Here is a partial list of what might be relevant scripts:

("JHM" are my initials, indicating I've done something to it)

AddMarkersToEvents.js
JHM MarkersToRegions.js
AddCDMarkersToEvents.js
AddMarkersAtInterval.js
JHM Markers at Media Change Points.js
JHM Markers at Transitions.js
JHM AddRegionsToEvents.js
JHM Regions From Events Name.js
JHM AddRegionsToEvents and name for first effect.js
JHM AddRegionsToEvents and Name Regions.js
JHM Create Regions From Event File Names.js

I probably have some more, but those are the ones I found quickly.

Hi John, what do you mean by pass-thru?
The guy lent me this cam, a Sony TR917, with no firewire output, just rca jacks and s-video. It's a hi8 in fact (just noticed).
The Hauppauge unit will only encode in mpg2. It's a device used to record tv programs computers.

You've probably already heard, but a very good way to transfer would be to use a Sony Digital 8 with 8/Hi-8 playback capabilities, firewired to PC. The TBC and NR will give you very nice .avis.
The ADVC-300 would work gr8 too.
You'll lose lots of detail going to mpeg and back to avi then back to mpeg.

Pass-through simply means that you connect the analog signal into your camcorder, and then connect the Firewire/1394 from you camcorder to your computer. Many camcorder can take the incoming analog signal and digitize and encode it into DV and then "pass this through" to the computer without first putting it on tape. In essence, you camera becomes an external encoder box. It is by far the best way for most people to encode their old VHS, SVHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, 8mm, and Hi-8mm tapes into either DV or DVD.

As TheGr8Steve stated, if you don't have a camcorder that does this, many people simply buy a used Digital8 camcorder, which can directly play your old tapes and send the output directly over Firewire, in DV format, to your computer. You can often get these, in working condition, on eBay for under $100.
