MPEG-1 is included in VF. It is an excellent quality encoder which will produce VCD compliant MPEG1 files comparable to TMPGenc. VF also includes basic VCD authoring to burn your slide shows to CD and play on most DVD players.

You will need to purchase VF and register the MPEG-1 plug-in before you can use it (it is not available in the demo).

The MPEG-2 plug-in is a $30 option (for the standard version).

What does MPEG-2 do for me?

With MPEG2, it is possible to create SVCDs which will give you a resolution of 480x480 (ntsc) instead of the VCD resolution of 352x240.

VCDs have better compatibility with more DVD players. You can check the compatiblity of your DVD player at http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php.

Try VCD first. If you aren't happy with the resolution, you can try creating an SVCD using TMPGenc and Nero.

SVCDs are generally much better for slide shows, though I find that VCDs are in some ways better than SVCDs for video.

If you are interested in the MPEG2 plug-in, Vegas comes with the pro version of that plug-in and is only a $150 upgrade until March 22.

You can find a lot more info on VCDs and SVCDs at http://www.vcdhelp.com.

I'm interesed in the $150 upgrade from FV to VV. I checked the software page, and it said it is $199. Is there another place to order from?
Thanks.

Thanks, I just upgraded. (See you in VV forum)

Thanks for posting that, I didn't realize the $150 upgrade offer was still in effect. I have been wanting to upgrade to VV3, but was waiting for the offer to come arround again. I upgraded at noon today.

FYI - Anyone purchasing the upgrade should leave the Keycode that is automatically entered instead of using one from a catalog. If you use a catalog number, you won't get the $150 offer. Instead you get the $200.00 offer.
