Periodically we will comment on Vegas's lack of exposure. I recently was reviewing the current issue of VideoMaker and they have given Vegas the "Years Best" acknowledgement for an editing suite.
Just looked to see if they had it online. Here's what they say.
Best Advanced Editing Software
Sony Media Software Vegas 6 Video Editing Software ($450)
There was some heavy competition in this category, as the majority of higher-end editing software packages became super feature-rich. Though we would be happy using most we tested, Vegas 6 grabbed our attention as software that was beginner-friendly but would keep the interest of higher-end users not trying to work in Avid-modeled workflow that Hollywood and advertising editors are accustomed to. We loved the tags feature that let the operator attach metadata to clips, and Vegas is packed with many features professionals would expect such as nesting, JKL transport keys, Dolby 5.1 surround sound capabilities, powerful color correction tools, vectorscope and waveform monitors and so much more.

I too have seen a lot of posts on that subject. Never really understood what makes the difference , I found it, i use it, plenty of aftermarket stuff out there to enhance it. Lets just keep it our little secret.
One reason it matters is I routinely see ads for Avid Editor wanted or Final Cut Pro editor wanted for jobs where want they really mean is "professional video editor wanted." They assume Final Cut or Avid are the only tools pros use.
usually those ads are looking at uncompressed video editing, you can set vegas up and have an uncompressed system and compete, if you have the set up
or they are refering to wanting an editor to run their system, which is usually avid or fcp.
Remember when "Lotus 123 and Word Perfect Skills a must!" were included in any secretarial position help wanted solicitation?
The video world is going through a similar phase. Vegas is starting to shake things up, even though most ads for editors still want Avid or FCP. I'm not sure Vegas will ever take over that much market share but who ever thought in the early days of MS Word and Excel that they would be so dominant today.
Your comments on WP and Lotus bear closer examination, however...they were the market leaders at the time. Now of course it is Office, and WP and Lotus are all but out of business (I guess).
....THAT is the reason why I want more people to discover, use, and buy Vegas - because I don't want it to be absorbed by a competitor. I understand the adage of fall in love with your craft, not your tools - but I still would like Vegas to be around for the long haul.
