jyarb,

By "this months" do you mean the May 2002 issue? My latest issue is April 2002 and I didn't see the review. So I am thinking I need to pick up the May issue.

But you may have to be a Club Vid member to see it. Since I get this magazine I am a member, but I didn't do anything but say so when I was looking for the article (I.E., no password). It's a nice review. I recently went to the VideoMaker conference in Santa Clara, CA and it was a great conference. I wish SoFo would have sponsered some free software as they were doing raffles, but they were only giving away Adobe and ULead products. Perhaps SoFo could have donated a few copy of Vegas or Video Factory for the raffle... Alas, SoFo was suspiciously not mentioned much. I'm glad to see the magazine do a nice review.

I don't know. I wish these people would give real world reviews like the stuff a VV3 editor vs a FCP editor, vs a Avid Express editor, vs a Premiere editor would argue about. They can't because of advertising dollars I guess, but here is how my argument between editors goes:

VV3 to FCP: You can't even drop an alpha photoshop file in for realtime PREVIEW.
FCP To VV3: You can't export to a real Avid.

VV3 to Premiere: How is Premiere on a laptop?
Premiere to VV3: How is VV3 with a Storm card?

VV3 to Avid: How much would it cost to be able to color correct, create tiles & scrolling titles, pay for a computer that works with Avid Express?
Avid to VV3: It is an Avid.

On second thought, a magazine is not enough, it would need to be a volume of books.

All in fun, what works for you, works for you. VV3 works for me :-)

Tom,

I read the Eric Franks review from the URL you provided. It was a good review, but frankly I thought it should have been even more flattering and, for that matter, detailed. Something similar to Charlie White's 5-page review at:

Hi Seeker...

I totally agree, but it was nice just to have some mention in VideoMaker Magazine at all. It was a little sad at the convention when they were giving away products from ULead and Adobe and there was nothing represented from SoFo and the conference speakers definitely pushed Adobe and ULead products. At one point they said that Vegas was a good editor when someone asked about it then moved on to the next subject. In fairness, they did not endorse anything, they simply didn't talk about SoFo "much". I think SoFo should provide them with a few free copies of Vegas and/or some of their other products to give away at these things. They really talked up the stuff they gave away in the raffle...
