Videomaker's review of the new Sony HDV cam (November 2004) is very positive quality-wise but thinks the camera very unpracticalble in that the VX2100 produced superior footage for all common TV's except HDV. I was set on getting this camera but wonder if my mind-set was based on ego. previewing on my own HD TV and not practical. I'm thinking very few who see my work will be seing it on a HDTV and maybe this camera will not earn its worth.

I send a lot of videos to the UK to play on PAL widescreen TV's. How will this camera perfrom in this enviroment?

Keep the source in mind....
I've seen HDV on both HD monitors and regular monitors. I've not seen footage from the new professional version on anything but a high def CRT, so can't comment on that one.
Superior footage, or footage more suited to the format? I'd submit the latter.
do you really NEED to be cutting edge, or just want to be?
This cam will perform exceptionally well for PAL Widescreen. HDV is widescreen.

it's fun to speculate, but wait'll you see what the cam really does before losing sleep in either direction. We'll have some raw media to upload as soon as it's clear to do so.
