View, Window, Trim usage in VPS v.21, b.315?

Hello:

Windows 10, VPS 21 build 315

I can find in the help menu how to open the video trimmer by accessing View, Windows, Trimmer, after opening a media file (video) but I have not figured out how to get the video timeline visible and accessible.

I want to remove unimportant video/audio from the beginning of music videos.

It is easy to trim audio in Sonic Forge 17 because the timeline for the audio waveform is visible as soon as a file is loaded.

I may have been mistaken in trying previously to trim the audio from MP4 video in SF17. Maybe that only removes audio and created some A/V sync problems I was puzzled by later.

I previously used to detach video and then edit (but not trim) audio in SF (perhaps earlier version like 10 or 14. It might not even be a feature of SF 17). It seems like audio editing (not trimming) on an intact (video with audio) MP4 file works, but is time consuming to re-encode.

I can open SF 17 from VPS 21, but when there are both video and audio tasks to perform, it doesn't seem practical to do a single re-render for both. If I open SF from VPS, I have to save-as in SF, which bypasses video operations like trimming.

 

Engaging the opened video timeline in VPS View, Window, Trimmer is my current mental block.

That is better because the ?preview? is larger. My default is a fraction of that size.

However, I am still not sure where the trim function is performed.

For example, if IO want to trim the first 45 seconds of a video, or remove a block of time between 00:00:02 and 00:00:45 (2-45 seconds), I assume I would highlight the timeline for the desired section to remove. Maybe there is another step to select a cut or trim function, and maybe timeline magnification to get the resolution to see the brief timespan to select.

I just remembered someone earlier (above) referred me to a tutorial summary video. I'll go back & look for that again. I have been looking at menu-based written instructions today, mainly because it allows search by keywords.

Is that sculpture by Fernando Botero of Colombia?

Personally I rarely use the trimmer as I prefer to do cutting on the timeline. Each piece cut out can be saved as a Subclip.

As for the sculpture it's in the Auckland Botanic Garden. The only useful info I could find is below. Llew Summers is in Christchurch NZ so not a Fernando Botero sculpture.

Maybe a 15" laptop is too small to see on!

I think I need to zoom into the VPS timeline which I know how to do in SF.

I started watching a beginner tutorial for Vegas v.18. Since I'm at 0,I'm not too worried about V18-21 changes at the moment. This is a different world.

Thank you for the sculpture info. I see the 'wings'.

Apparently the proper term in the art world for this kind of presentation of human form is 'volumetric'. No F word or O word to offend!

You can access the VEGAS Pro manual from the Help menu. I think it is quite good in general. There are both online and PDF versions. If you use the online version there's a search function at the top. Search "Using the Trimmer" for an explanation of how the trimmer works, and "Window Docking Area" for a general overview of how you can change size and position of a window within VEGAS. You can also save different window layouts and change easily from one to another.
