Viewing mpeg-2 files

Currently I don't have a DVD player installed in my computer. If I create a mpeg-2 file on my hard drive in VV3 I can't open it in Windows media player. Is there some DVD player software that I can download that will allow me to view an mpeg-2 file on my hard drive? I don't want to make a DVD disk I just want to be able to view the mpeg-2 file from my hard drive.

If you install Vegas 3.0c, a directshow MPEG-2 decoder (what you need) will be installed, allowing playback of MPEG-2 in Windows Media Player. You can download other directshow MPEG-2 decoders from www.vcdhelp.com

Thanks...I feel so stupid. I already have 3.0c but never thought to try to open an mpeg-2 file after downloading this update. The last time I tried to open an mpeg-2 file was several months ago. I guess I should read the patch update notes a little more closely! :)

you also might want to get hold of a player that is designed for MPEG-2 playback, such as Cyberlink PowerDVD or any other software based DVD player. Windows Media Player does a barely acceptable job showing MPEG-2 content, especially if it's interlaced, but a software DVD player will de-interlace the content and show you clean images, more like they will appear on a set top DVD player.
