Go into V5 options in the video device section and select "firewire 1394 device".

Microtouch, look on the bottom of your ADS, and see/report the model version? If it's not later than version "C", you might experience some issues.

it says Ver 3.3 with the date May 1, 2005

In that case, make sure the DIP switches are set correctly for PAL or NTSC. When you connect it, I assume you've got firewire to ADS, and ADS to television monitor, using either composite or component output? Does digital light come on in the ADS?

I verified the switches and they are in accord with the manual. Yes I have a firewire from my computer to the ADS and RCA cable out of ADS to the TV.

Sorry and yes I have a digital light on the ADS

Hmm.....At this point, I'd be recommending you call ADS Tech support. Talk to Bokee. If I remember right, V3.3 should work find with Vegas 6.
You're clicking/selecting the External preview option in the Vegas preview window, yes?

yes. but I'm using Vegas 5.0 if that means anything. Man o man this is so frustrating

Will someone please give me a recommendation of a DV bridge that WORKS with Vegas 5 thanks in advance.

Have you made sure the project settings are set correctly?

Being in the UK, I often forget to ensure the project settings are set to PAL before viewing on an external monitor. Vegas always seems to default to NTSC for the project and therefore the external monitor shows nothing until I reset the project properties to PAL.

Cheers

Vegas always seems to default to NTSC for the project

YOU can change that. Go to File - Properties, change to your preferred settings, and check the box that says "Start all new projects with these settings" before clicking on OK. Now all new projects will start the way you desire.

Cheers Jetdv

Had a feeling there must be a way to fix that.

Thanks

I can generally view on TV ok through my A-D converter ( a datavideo DAC100 working in PAL) but on some projects I found it did not work , sometimes nothing, sometimes parts would work then freeze.

By experimentation I found that I had to apply some processing to the video, for example apply Broadcast Colours filter, then they seem to preview fine.
