Virtual Choir Project Starting to Crash and Hang?

Ken-Theriot wrote on 12/9/2020, 4:25 PM

I'm trying to put 70 videos into a project and arrange them in grids all singing the same song. It's working very well - or was until I got to like the 24th video. Now the project is just stuttering, hanging and crashing. Is this about the video file sizes? They are each between 300-500 MB. I'd hate to have to remove the videos and start over after having used Handbrake to lower the file size. I've got about 50 hours of work into this thing so far :-P. If it isn't file size, is there a way to lessen whatever load causing Vegas to crash? BTW, I'm using Vegas Pro 16. It's a 1-year old computer running Windows 10. 64-bit, core i7-8700 processor @ 3.2GHz, 3192 Mhz, 6 Cores.

The more video you are inserting, the harder VP will read all videos running by the same time, processing power bottleneck... and it will be totally hard as well if you are using original MP4 source directly.

That's the reason why I recommend transcode all of them to Magix Intermediate format. Large file size, but more stable (at least to me in my system scope)

The other alternative I can suggest..., but this might be limiting the creativity: would be arrange them, say, per column or per row, render it partially, and combine later again in more 'simplified' timeline arrangement.

Render to PNG sequence with only choirs 'boxes' can make transparency on the background.

Hope these ideas can help for the workflow.

Thanks Set. I was actually thinking I'd have to do that latter. I did look into the Magix format option, but I literally do not have enough space on my hard drive to even store that many videos that large :-P.

yep.. that's reasonable. - just try with 'smaller scale', say with one or two singers first for experiment.

Also, in the timeline, right click insert empty event feature can also be useful in case you need to do temporary sync places or marker or partial-sequence marker.

Do color correcting as well first to balance all Choristers if you need too, during the 'partial conversions' to PNG sequences.
