VirtualDub cannot read Vegas Captured files

I captured in some files from the camera using Vegas. I know that some of the clips are a little grainy, so I wanted to use VirtualDub to see if I could clean them up.

VirtualDub cannot open any of the AVI files saying something like it can't open "DVSD" files?

Anyone know how to get around this, do I need to convert these files into something else before VirtualDub can open them?

It sounds like you don’t have a DV codec on your system. I process my Vegas captured files in VirtualDub all the time. You might want to do a Google search for the free Panasonic DV Codec. This is what I use.

Virtual Dub uses standalone codecs so you will have to use Canopus, Main Concept, Cinemacraft, Etc. and make sure you have the latest Virtual Dub which will take Mpgs.

the main concept panasonic dv codec will make it so you can read vegas (or any other) DV files in virtualdub

the canopus codec also works in virtualdub , but i suggest not using it in this case as i have seen some weirdness and unreading .

btw-- cinemacraft do not make codecs - they make encoders

the latest virtualdub does NOT read mpeg2 file either -- only 'virtualdubMOD ' or 'virtualdub MPEG2 ' -- both on sourceforge ..
