Vista 32 vs Vista 64 vs Windows 7 64

I recently installed Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit onto different hard drives on my system.

I rendered a 1 minute segment of MP4 video (with a Sony Levels Event FX and Neat Video Event FX) to an Xvid AVI. Unfortunately, the Neat Video plugin doesn't work with Vegas 8.1 (64 bit), so all three tests were done with Vegas 8.0c (32 bit). The results were interesting to me.

Processing time for each OS:
Vista Ultimate 32 bit SP 1: 10 minutes 10 seconds
Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP 1: 4 minutes 53 seconds
Windows 7 64 bit Beta: 4 minutes 47 seconds

It was surprising that a 32 bit application (Vegas 8.0c) was processing the file twice as fast in Vista 64 bit in relation to Vista 32 bit. So even if you can't run Vegas 8.1 in your 64 bit OS (because your plugins or codecs don't work), it's still worth upgrading and using Vegas 8.0c.

Search for the word "surrogate" on this forum. Here's one thread with some information on the topic.

I'm not sure what your point is. My tests did not involve Vegas 8.1 as some plugins and codecs I use are not supported in Vegas 8.1.

My tests just showed the differences between the different OSs with Vegas 8.0c. Does Vegas 8.0c use the surrogate thing in a 64 bit OS and vastly improve Vegas 8.0c 's performance?

Looks like I misread your post. The link I posted earlier is not relevant to your comments.

VanLazarus: how did you install and register Neat Video under Windows 7 x64? According to instructions it should be possible to register it under Vegas by just dropping the dll to the Vegas' main window - but I have tried to drop it on Vegas 9.0 x64, 9.0 x32 and 8.0c and they all say that they recognized it as a self registering FX but were unable to register it.
