Hello all. My first post. I jut installed Vegas pro 8.0 that I bought a month ago from Sony. What version, I don't know. I was told that 8.1 was a free upgrade. I downloaded 8.1 and tried to install. This is the message I get when trying to run 8.1 thats saved in the computer.

The version of this file is not campatible with the version (vista64) of windows you are running.Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32bit) or x64(64bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

What did I do wrong?

Vegas Pro 8 is for 32 bit versions of windows (xp or Vista)
Vegas Pro 8.1 is only for Vista 64

Which version of Windows are you running?

8.1 runs under any version of Vista 64. I use the "home" oem version with no problems. Something else is wrong. It could be many things. Can you run Vegas 8.0 ? .. I'd start learning Vegas there. Meanwhile contact Sony support here

You can e-mail them the install error you are getting. They may have some suggestions for installing 8.1....That error seems very unusual to me.

Although not officially supported - 8.1 works very well on XP64 too
