Vista 64 bit with just 2GB?

My new editing laptop just came and in line with discussions here I choose NOT to go 64 bit and got just 2gb RAM. Set up machine and it IS 64 bit so I ask how will 64-bit and 2 gb do for Vegas or must I go now to 4GB to get some mileage from the 64 bit. The 64 bit is more expensive than what I paid for so I don't see returning it a good idea.

I originally had 2GB in my PC with Vista 64. Vista is more of a resource hog, so if you plan on opening up multiple applications at the same time, 2GB may be a struggle. If you only plan to open one major application, maybe two, then 2GB will be OK. I now have 4GB in my PC.

Don't forget, that Vista has that new feature - ReadyBoost, whereby if you insert a memory stick into one of the slots in the side of your laptop, it can use it as RAM. I have not personally tried that feature myself, so maybe somebody else on this forum can comment.

FWIW my 64bit business vista works fine with 2GB for v7d & 8 trial

Just an odd thought, but probably in less time than it took to post this question in the forum, you could have started up Vegas to see how well it would run.

Naw! That wouldn't be social.

In a laptop, you probably have just two SO-DIMM slots and they're probably filled with 1GB diims. To get a pair of 2GB DIMMs you'd want to exchange them with the manufacturer right away, otherwise you're stuck with 2 unusable sticks of memory.

2GB SO-DIMMs exist, but they're disproportionately expensive compared to 1GB DIMMs. After you price it out you may decide to just hold pat with what you've got.
