Visualizations: Kind of OT, but maybe of interest

I just reacquainted myself with Winamp, which has some mind-numbing visualizations that could make spectacular vid backgrounds, quality and royalties aside for the moment. Could someone suggest how I capture one of these visualizations for further testing? My nVIDIA card has a TV s-video output. Plugging my camera into it (with and without the monitor hooked up) produces nothing (should it?). The nVIDIA web site was little help, but this forum has been a crackerjack for my problems in the past.

CamStudio might be able to do something for you. I've just tried it - it worked, but my low spec pc (at work) couldn't generate the visualization quickly enough to be useful. Should be ok with a decent pc though! CamStudio will also record the audio, though I've no idea what the quality's like.

I just did exactly what you're describing on a recent video. I tried Camtasia products. Not fast enough to get a acceptable frame rate.

Best solution was to use the S-Video out like you mentioned.

But I had to go to the Video settings and change my display to TV (instead of the monitor). Then, the signal went to my camera and I could capture fine.

Also, be sure to check out the Corona viz for MediaPlayer 9. It's very nice.

OR just buy some cheap video loops and save the trouble.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. As always, valuable suggestions. (I should have mentioned making videos is just a hobby and the only flow of money from my little projects is OUT, so I think I'll take a rain cheque on buying anything else at the moment.. ;-)

I also have been trying to get s-video from my card, but have been unsuccessful, My card is a Gainward GeForce 4 MX420 with a s-video connector. How do you change from monitor to TV? The manual says to go to advanced display properties and click on the "output device" tab, but I have no such tab. What am I missing?

Great news! CamStudio is FREE! The first few test runs were quite disjointed, but there are many settings to tweak and codecs to try. I also tried changing the setting from monitor to TV, but ran into the same problem as jerryd...I'm a tab short of taking a stab at it...David, could you please expand on your directions a bit?

One caveat is to make sure you connect your camera/tv to the video card's S-Video port before you bring up the Display Settings.

Once you do, look for a settings that talk about nView for nVideo cards or cloning or multiple displays, etc.

On my system, the settings are on the manufacture's tab. I had a couple options:

1. Make the TV out the only display
2. Clone the display (shows on camera and monitor at same time)

You'll just have to play with it to get the results you want.

Also, some applications only display on the primary display, in which case you'll have to make the camera the primary.

Thanks, David. When I get that done, I'll get the newest version of Windows Media Player and scope out Corona.
