VMS 10.0 vs 9.0

Hello All:

I am a current user of VMS Platinum Propack 9.0 on a Dell Inspiron 1420 with Vista. My 9.0 installation has always been rock solid . . . no crashing, no weird behavior, everything works flawlessly! I love it.

However I'm thinking about downloading a trial version of VMS 10.0. I've been following the 10.0 posts concerning stability, poor preview quality, etc.

So here is my question:

For those users who have (or had) 9.0 installed and then installed 10.0, did 9.0 continue to perform as expected? I'm very concerned that a 10.0 install might affect the performance or stability of my 9.0 install (not sure if they share files or if 10.0 overwrites certain 9.0 files, etc.). Thus if I find 10.0 doesn't work well, I could simply uninstall 10.0 and fall back to my trusty 9.0 . . . assuming it was unaffected by the 10.0 install.

Any thoughts or experience with this issue?

Kim

You should be able to install and uninstall the VMS10 trial without affecting your other Sony software.

To be on the safe side, I always back up my Shared Plugins folder before doing so.

However, I predict you will keep and register VMS10 at the end of the trial.

VMS 9 and 10 both installed and both stable here, too.

I had v9 only two months before v10 came out. Version 10 found all my NewBlue plugins that came with the v9 Pro Pack during installation and automatically added them to my transitions in v10.

The only problems I've had with stability were because the captured HDV files had flaws. Once VMS rendered out a new file it had no stability problems with a 105 minute timeline.

No problem with 9 with 10 installed here, either (But I do use 10 all the time now).

Musicvid:

Excellent idea on backing up the shared folders! I will do that before I download 10.0.

I too think I will end up keeping 10.0. I'm very interested in a couple of the new featues. One day I will probably upgrade to the Pro version, but not until I am working at a level that is consistently above what the Studio versions offer.

First post here. I can vouch for 10--been pretty solid for me so far. Only a couple lockups with the trial download. Now that I've registered it, I'm sure that won't happen again :-D
