VMS 10 hang on startup

Recently bought the upgrade to VMS 10. Downloaded and installed. Upon startup, VMS goes through its normal startup processes and then stops at "Initializing UI." It just sits there. Task Manager shows 0 cpu usage for any of VMS's related processes and the VMS Taskbar button will not display the usual right-click options.

Toshiba Satellite Laptop, 1.2Ghz Intel Mobile, 4 gigs Ram, Win XP Home SP3 with all current updates, AVG Antivirus, Zone Alarm, Quicktime 7.6.6, External WD Firewire HD, External USB DVD, M-Audio NRV 10 ASIO Audio.

Any ideas?

Remove temporarily the USB storage devices, Zone Alarm and AVG (the Microsoft Security Essentials is much faster btw, when I switched to it last week it made my bootup from 4:17 to 2:13 minutes on XP!). Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card and audio card. Then, retry loading VMS.

Add the VMS app to AVG's exception list and make sure ZoneAlarm isn't blocking it from accessing Local or Internet.

I agree with Eugenia about Microsoft Security Essentials, I just recommended it in another thread HERE. I used to use ZA (free) but now use COMODO Firewall instead, as with MSE, COMODO Firewall is less bloated than ZA.
