VMS 10 problems

I've been using VMS for a long time (since version 6? I'm not sure).

I have to say I'm having some real problems with VMS 10, and not happy.

I have high-def (1920x1080) video captured from a helmet camera that I'm trying to speed up. I sped it up 4x, and it rendered just fine.

Now I'm trying to speed up the resulting file 4x again. VMS goes through the render process, looking completely normal, but the output file is only 5K, and obviously doesn't work.

I've tried this multiple times, with a variety of settings, and rebooted several times for a fresh start.

It seems that VMS 10 cannot reliably render HD footage, and doesn't even fail gracefully.

I'm going to try it on VMS 9 tonight, and investigate further. Updates to follow.

When you render out in order to re-edit it, you should use an intermediate codec. I'd suggest you install either the Matrox AVI, or Avid DNxHD. Both visually lossless codecs. That footage should work fine when you re-export.

As I suspected, VMS 9 rendered my project beautifully, on the first try.

VMS 10 goes through the entire render process, but fails to create any output.

VMS 10 might have some cool new features, but it does not seem reliable to me.

It's a give and take thing.

VMS10 does some things better than VMS9, and VMS9 does a few things better than VMS10. Meaning, that when they are fixing bugs on newer releases, they create new ones. Or when they add new features, there are also new bugs. This is normal software life.

For example, h.264 MOV support is now more stable on VMS 10 than it ever was on any Vegas version.
