VMS 11 Anaglyphic 3-D Problems

I'm not sure if it's a bug or I'm just missing something. I'm going through the help file to create a 3-D anaglyphic (red/cyan) movie. I recorded 2 clips using my two cameras attached to a metal bar. The clips appear to be progressing well until the final steps.

------

One video event is deleted from the timeline, the active take for the event is set to the new multistream subclip, and a new multistream clip is added to the Project Media window. If you view the clip properties for the new subclip, you'll see that the Stereoscopic 3D Mode is set to Pair with next stream.

Delete the audio and video tracks you created in step 1.

After synchronizing the events, you will have a paired stereoscopic subclip in the Project Media window. You can drag these clips to the timeline as stereoscopic 3D media.

-----

I have completed these steps, but the generated video is not in 3-D. It looks like a standard video. Am I missing some all-important step?

Thanks for any help

I've toyed around with this (and by no means an expert), but I think you need to make sure your project properties are set properly in a number of spots (eg. Stereoscopic 3D in Project Properties.

I would suggest sitting through webinar to get all the info you need.

Thank you for the link to the 3-D webinar. Although it is not for VMS 11, the steps are almost completely applicable. However, following their steps (the same steps in the help file) still yields a non-3d video. The process functions exactly as I would expect a working one to. (Their are no error messages, and a subclip is generated) It's just that the subclip anaglyphic video doesn't actually contain any red or cyan in it. When testing the side by side half and full options, the video seems be created successfully. It's only the anaglyphic 3-d that shows no visible change.

I have also ensured that my settings in both the project properties and preview device properties are set to anaglyphic 3-d.

Interetsing. I actually tested out their approach with VMS 11 and did get a 3D video. I didn't go so far as render it as I was just toying around with it with the preview.

Do you see 3D in the preview or is that missing too?

No 3d is showing up in the preview window.

As a test, I set my stereoscopic project properties to side by side half and highlighted two videos of completely different scenes. When I select "pair as stereoscopic 3-D subclip" I would expect the preview window to show the left eye to be one scene and the right to be the other, but the preview window shows two identical images (The left eye only in this case).

So if one of my videos is always being "swallowed up" in the pairing process. I believe this explains the anaglyphic problems because I won't get a 3-D image if both images are identical.

I'm not really sure what would cause this.

If you right click on the preview window, then click on preview device preferences, did you set your preview device to use th appropriate 3D settings?

If I recall from the webinar, you need to set the 3D properties in multiple locations (eg. project properties as well as preview).

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, both the preview properties and the project properties have been set to anaglyphic 3-D. I was thinking about installing on another computer to see if it is a problem specific to my setup.

Okay, first I want to say I've rendered a number of anaglyph 3-D videos and they turned out great. If you want I can send a short video for yo to see.

But on to your problem, although you are experiencing a different error result than I was getting, I spent in excess of five hours trying to merge two clips for 3D video. It finally turned out that one clip was somehow corrupted, but only when it came to merging the clips. I finally got it working when I re-imported the clip without the name change I'd done to identify L and R clips. The R clip worked fine, but the L clip was the problem.

So as dumb as it sounds, you might try re-importing your clips from your source and see if things improve. Even if there are no discernible problems in the video. Mine played perfectly in every application I tried. But still wouldn't merge.

Let us know how it goes, in the meantime, I will see about replicating the issue using my system. Good Luck.
