VMS 11 Crashes upon starting the second time

meksmk wrote on 6/10/2011, 9:10 PM
I've just installed VMS 11. Opened it and everythings was fine. Made sure things worked. But didn't save the project. Closed it and went back in and it crashed. So I uninstalled. Cleaned the registry and installed again. Went in and everything was fine. Opened a prior project but didn't save anything. Tried to start for the second time and it crashes. It seems to be chocking at the point it's "initializing project." Anyone else having any issues like this?

I have got exactly the same issue and have not been able to resolve it.

It appears I have solved the particular problem by disabling Data Execution Prevention as per tech note (Error: (Program name) has encountered a problem and needs to close. Published 06/18/2009 11:30 AM | Updated 02/07/2011 08:16 AM).

It was most likely my soundcard that created the issue.
The program has now been running correctly for a while, so I hope this is solved.

This sounds like a pretty serious issue, contact support.

Getting to a place in their support area has been so frustrating. It keeps asking me for an account which I have and am logged into. Does anyone have some email address I can use to ask them about this issue? It just shouldn't be this hard...

Same issue here - raised a support ticket

Had the same exact problem.

Ctl-Shift solves it.

Thanks,
Brandon

I read in another forum that the problem _may_ be caused by setting audio to DD 5.1 as default in project properties.

Same here - raised a support ticket. I found that by deleting user settings I could get it to start again, but then I have to go in and change my settings back.

User settings are under (in Windows 7) c:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\Sony Creative Software\Vegas etc.

Not very good for a new release, I'm afraid.

Support unable to solve the problem - so far.

Built a new (ish) system - replaced the motherboard, RAM and hard drive, the issue still occurs on the new system (kept the CPU & Graphic card).

Installed it on my laptop - which runs all the same software as my PC, and it works perfectly on the laptop, but still crashes on the new PC system.

Both laptop and PC run Win 7 64 Ultimate.

Something not right with this - Vegas 10 Pro works on both Laptop & PC.

Got my doubts that support can get it to work - they seem to be running out of suggestions.

Ctrl + shift works -as soon as you set audio properties to 5.1 it crashes upon opening.

Support have been able to reproduce the error and have passed the issue on for further development. No idea when fix will occur

Work around is not have 5.1 sound applied in properties as default setting ( ie not to apply to all projects)

Thanks for the update.

I'll stick with stereo for now.

Oh well, that's all right then, should be fixed in VMS 12!
