VMS 11 Patch ???

Roberto65 wrote on 7/11/2011, 1:18 PM
I was using VMS HD Platinm 11 and during the editing it crashed.
After the crash, a pop-up window opened, displaying a link to a VMS 11 update, supposed to fix several bugs.
I clicked the link: it opened a window to download this "patch", similar to teh one that appears when the product is bought.
I downloaded it: the name of the file is still moviestudiope11.exe but the size is different from the moviestudiope11.exe file that I donwload when I bought the upgrade form VMS10, exactly one month ago.
The original file size was: 157195
The newly downloaded file size is: 165184

Anybody can suggest what to do or got the same message after the SW crashed ?

I would not install that file if I were you, I have never known of any update coming after a program crash. If it were a real update it would be listed on the update page with a letter after the file name a, b, c. I also checked the offical update page and there is no update at this time.

Googling that file name brings up this web page:

http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/

This page appears to have every SCS program ever offered for download.

I have been trying to render a file for hours. The last time I had a problem I sent a message to Sony about the rendering. After it was sent I got a message to download an update as the OP says he did. After installation SVMS says I have v11.0 (build 231). Is there or is there not an update? Or have I been suckered in? Thanks.

It would appear that there is, in fact, an update. The base version, which most of us should have including me, is build 220. Maybe SCS is only offering it to people that have crash reports.

Maybe it includes a few patches but not enough to call it an "a" update.

Interesting.

If, within the application, one goes to the Help menu > Sony on the web > Latest updates followed by clicking on the release notes http://sony-446.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/releasenotes/moviestudiope110_readme_enu.htm in para 2 it refers to version 231 with the date of these notes being June 2011. It would appear therefore that there is an update.......sort of.

I downloaded and installed and sure enough when clicking on 'About' the application now indicated version 231.

the page does appear to be legit. The whois info is identical and
http://download.sonycreativesoftware.com/current/
is identical to

Man, I've done 3 scans, 2 deep scans and have uninstalled SVMS 10 and 11 as well as the 64 bit patch. Was thinking about reformatting and starting over. I thought the 64 bit patch was what did it. I was ready to panic.

Also if that URL is on the Internet Sony might ought to change URLs before everyone starts downloading everything. This is weird. Wish we could get word from Sony.

And all the recent hacking incidents to Sony networks you really have to wonder...
Markk655 wrote on 7/16/2011, 10:55 AM
Not sure if this means anything, but if you ping the 2 websites, you get very similar ip addresses that only differ in the last set of digits(only zz is different) ...xx.xx.xx.zz.

I downloaded the file mentioned above. I looked at the build # that I got with my original DVD and it was 220. Then I ran the file I downloaded and in the setup window it said that it was a newer version and did I want to update my VMS install. So I did. And now I have build # 231. So it is an update for some of us that got the original release. You do have to go through and do the 64 bit fix since some of the files are overwritten with new versions. Everything works like a charm after all is said and done.

OK - Standard software update page

"2.0 What’s New
Notable fixes/changes in version 11.0 (Build 231)
The Burn Blu-ray Disc feature has been updated for compliance with the Blu-ray Disc specification. You can render 3D projects to a Blu-ray 3D Disc image file (.iso) from the timeline (Tools > Burn Disc > Blu-ray Disc). This feature is intended for commercial BD-ROM preparation testing."

So, yes there is an official update on the official page which you can reach via a link at the top this page. Happy downloading!

Nice to know about this!
I have installed the new update and now the build is 231.
Now I wonder if I need to run the MemoryCap patch again... because it was necessary for VMS 11 build 220.
I will try to render an old project (which crashed without the Cap patch, but not crashing once the file are patched) and let ppl here know
Roberto65 wrote on 7/17/2011, 2:51 AM
No crash after installing the patch. But I am not sure if this is because I formerly apply the MemoryCap (which is obviously manteined)
crofter wrote on 7/17/2011, 10:43 AM
What is the memory cap patch you speak of ?
Roberto65 wrote on 7/17/2011, 1:05 PM
It's a patch (explained n some other post in this forum) to allow the usage of the RAM memory above 2GB. As a matter of fact, I patched the suggested files and some rendering crashes disappeared.
Again, search for EZ Cap patch or 2GB patch in this Forum and you should see the explanation.
charles-mcguyer wrote on 7/17/2011, 2:25 PM
crofter, here's the link. Someone gave it to me. You will need to substitute your version of VMS when searching for the files.

Thanks, I haven't had any problems so far but good to know there is a fix if I do, currently running Win7 64 bit with 4 gigs of ram and the latest version (231)of Vegas platinum 11.

I had to run CFFExplorer again after updating to build 231.
Roberto65 wrote on 7/19/2011, 12:46 PM
You are right!
In fact I had to apply the patch again after updating to the build 231.
Let's see if it now works (as the rendering was crashing, being the project probably enough complicated to suck out all the memory...)
Birk Binnard wrote on 7/20/2011, 9:24 AM
Yes, the VMS11 "Patch"is actually a total replacement of the software, so the previously patched modules do get replaced by unpatched ones. Therefore it is necessary to run CFFExploroer again.

The good news is it take only about a minute to do the patches.
meksmk wrote on 8/3/2011, 8:01 AM
Just checked the above link again. There's another "quiet" update available. It's build 247 and the last one was 231. They're even nice enough to label the file with the build number. Happy downloading!
meksmk wrote on 8/3/2011, 8:39 AM
So I downloaded the file for VMS 11 PE with DVD Architect studio 5 build 247. Installed it. Everything appeared to go fine. But the shorcut to DVDA Studio was odd. And when I clicked on it, it said it couldn't find it. I tried to run the downloaded file again and it said everything was installed. So I uninstalled DVDA Studio 5 and then ran the downloaded file again and installed just DVDA Studio 5. Everything is now fine except I had to pull out my license key to register DVDA Studio 5 again. Just a little detour and somewhat expected if this is considered an "unofficial patch."
Roberto65 wrote on 8/3/2011, 9:20 AM
I downloaded the .exe file but when I run it, it asked me to uninstall the existing VMS 11 version. When I installed the previous patch (build 231) everything was done automatically. Did you experience the same ? Did you have to manually uninstall the existing VMS ?
Birk Binnard wrote on 8/3/2011, 9:38 AM
The release Notes for Build 247 say this:

Notable fixes/changes in version 11.0 (Build 247)
The Burn Blu-ray Disc feature has been updated for compliance with the Blu-ray Disc specification. You can render 3D projects to a Blu-ray 3D Disc image file (.iso) from the timeline (Tools > Burn Disc > Blu-ray Disc). This feature is intended for commercial BD-ROM preparation testing.

Since I don't plan on making any 3D videos I'll pass on this update. Maybe the next one will have something more relevant to me.
