I'm pretty exhausted after attempting to find a fix for this for a few days, but I'll try to explain the problem as well as possible.
So basically I've been using the same install of VMS 8.0 platinum since I bought it a few years ago, and have never really had any issues. Recently I recorded some footage with Fraps which went fine.
When I tried to import the footage into VMS, I was able to successfully import the first three clips as always, but when I got to the fourth one it froze and gave me a "vegas has stopped working" message, then closed.
Now I'll go over what I've tried:
I tried some of the other clips (there were 9 in total), and 4 out of the 9 would freeze the program. I can't explain this at all, because all of the clips were basically the same... They had the same dimensions, framerate, everything. It was just a continuation of the single Fraps recording session.
Importing with the tool, and dragging the clips into the program both cause it to crash. I've tried it with different clips, with different dimensions, and everything I can think to change, but it still crashes.
I've updated Fraps and everything I can think of as well. I would like to reinstall vegas, but it would require me to turn over my house looking for the disc, so I decided I'd ask here to see if I could find an answer before getting to that.
Also I should note that all of the clips play fine in every media player I have, I was able to edit the clips together fine with windows movie maker, and I'm running vista 32bit.
Sorry if I didn't provide enough information, I've been working at this problem for a few hours today, and haven't made any progress so I'm a bit tired.
Thanks for anyone who reads this.
