VMS 8 Upgrade Discounts

sony_ms_user wrote on 7/3/2007, 12:56 PM
Has anyone received discounted pricing for upgrading to VMS 8?

In the past, each time a new VMS version is released, there is usually a discounted upgrade price offered to existing/registered VMS users. And, just because of the discounted pricing, I've jumped on the upgrade. I don't know that they have added enough from version 7 to version 8 for me to want to pay the $50 - 60 upgrade cost ... but when they discount that to $30, it always starts to reach my threshold.

It's 44 if you want the media and 34 if you just want to download...
I just downloaded and installed it for 34.

Do you have a link for the $44 and $34 upgrade prices? The only thing I've found on Sony's site is here:

https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/shopping/item.asp?PID=461&cid=111&disp=1

... which shows $50 and $60.

Thanks,

Strange - that site was the site that I also found - but now the prices are 5-6 USD higher.

However - Follow this link: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=12&MessageID=535165

Ritsmer,

Thanks for the pointer. I followed the suggestion in the mentioned thread and went to the July newsletter. After a bit of looking, I was able to find the link to the upgrade page from within the newsletter. Incidentally, that link is:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/shopping/item.asp?PID=461&keycode=3498

It does indeed have the $35 and $45 upgrade prices.

Wanting to see the difference between the above page and the original upgrade page I pointed out in my earlier post, I went back to the original link (which was $50 and $60). Well, what do you know - it now reads $35 and $45.

Either I'm going crazy or Sony is playing with the upgrade prices as we speak - strange...

Anyway, thanks again.

Let's see....

New! Improved snapping - color-coded visual snap indicator and the ability to snap to event edges on other tracks.
New! Multithreaded audio engine maximizes performance

I have VMSP7, are those two things worth $35 to upgrade to VMSP8?

I don't do HDV or AVCHD video so I'm wondering if there's enough new to make it worth it.

Can you provide some information or links on the specifics of HDV and AVCHD with VMSP 8? I have not been able to find these details ... thanks.
