VMS 9.0b crashing on startup

Has anyone had any problems with VMS 9.0b crashing on startup during the 'Creating I/O ..' process? This is consistently happening on my machine and it's pretty irritating. The only solution is for me to keep trying to start it.. usually it works on the 5th or 6th time. I have the 'Open last project' setting turned off so it should be starting out anew every time.

My specs:
DELL XPS M1530 notebook
P4 2.4Ghz Dual Core 2 with 4GB RAM
Nvidia 8600M GT Mobile 256M video
Windows Vista SP1 Business

Thanks for the input.

Make sure you run the latest version of the OS, and you have tried anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions.

As always, thanks for your input Eugenia.

All my Windows updates are current and anti-virus and Windows defender scans show clean. So far, VMS is the only application having this problem. I'm beginning to think that VMW is just buggy.

It doesn't happen here, so I am sure that's something that bothers it in your PC. Might be a driver, or a broken hardware part. Try re-installing it.

Sony Support has resolved my issue! Hence, I'm cross-posting their proposed solution here in case anyone else has this issue:

-----

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. To correct the startup error, please do the following:

1) Go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0\Vidcap Plug-Ins\aviplug
2) Right-click and copy the “aviplug.dll” that is located in that folder.
3) Now, go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\aviplug
4) Right-click on the “aviplug.dll” that is located here, and choose Rename. Rename it “aviplug.dll.old”
5) Now, paste the “aviplug.dll” from the clipboard into this folder (right-click > Paste), and close the window.

Now, please try starting up Vegas again.
