I hope a few who have upgraded to VMS Pro Pack reply here. I noticed that the description states that the Pro version contains Cinescore Studio and a theme pack. I want to verify this before I purchase. I also am interested to know if the download version contains everything that the package version contains.. Thanks in advance.

Supposedly, Platinum includes Cinescore. I've downloaded and installed Platinum 9.0, but can't find Cinescore anywhere. Anybody got an ideas?

After I put in my serial number and paid by credit card, it took me to a download page where VMS 9 was listed, along with DVDA 4.5 and a few other things, like Cinescore, New Blue and Sound Forge Audio Studio 9.0. Perhaps if you're looking to download a trial version, you might not get all the downloads listed. They also emailed me a list of serial numbers to enter to register these, as well as a link to download them (no need for the link, I already downloaded them). Check the link in your emails. By the way, I was buying the Pro pack. Maybe Cinescore only comes with that version (?).

Based on what I've read on the Sony website, Cinescore is supposed to come with all 3 non-Pro versions. PErhaps you are right, you have to pay for it before they will tell you where it's located in order to download Cinescore Studio.

I've always thought the platinum edition was worth the extra money. The pro pack is only $16 more and you get: (As you probably all know)
Sound Forge Audio Studio 9
1,001 Sound Effects
Pro Pack Cinescore Themes
New Blue 3D Transitions and Effects
2 GB Flash Drive while supplies last

I've got the full Sound Forge 9, so I don't need audio studio. While limited in features/capabilities I would think that alone would be worth the $16 if you didn;t have an audio editing app.

I don't need the sound effects or cinescore, but they may be useful to you.

The only thing in the bunch that interests me at all is the New Blues transitions. As we got a set with "8", I'd be interested in knowing what the transitions are.

As far as upgrading, I'll probably wait a few weeks and see what people are saying. I have no interest at all in wizards, but the enhanced HDV support might be useful.

In the end, I'm kinda on the fence about it.

good luck

I gave the trial version of VMS 9 Platinum a quick spin. Most of the new features seemed centered around supporting more import/export formats. Unfortunately, one of the new plugins (FLAC) crashed on me.

There really isn't any workflow imporvements other than the preview window being moved to the top and a few new "wizards" which you thankfully can turn off.

The video capture program, which also did not receive any changes, remains the weakest part of VMS.

I'm surprised that you still get DVD Architect Studio 4.5 even with all the hype Sony gave Blu-ray in their press releases (4.5 does NOT support Blu-ray). I suspect we might see a free upgrade to DVDA Studio 5 in our future.

So right now, this update seems more evolutionary than revolutionary. I suppose if you are heavy into HDV and Blu-ray, this will be a worthy upgrade. However, if you are sticking with DV, you might find 9 a little disappointing.

How do you turn the wizards off in VMS 9? that new project wizard is really annoying. Can't see any method to turn it off.
discdude wrote on 8/3/2008, 12:57 PM
Well, you can't avoid it completely.

You can unselect "Show New Project Wizard on startup if no project is open" in the Options and then the new project wizard won't pop up automatically.

You do have to go through the wizard if you want to create a new project instead of opening an existing one. However, you can hit finish in the first screen and then fiddle with the settings (resolution, frame rate, etc) in the Project Settings window (Atl-Enter).

Yes, figured that thanks. Really annoying so called feature. If you want to quickly render something (as I did yesterday - to send a small bit of video via email) but don't want to save it as a project, you can't get around the new project wizard.

Not a good feature.

Just receive VMSP Pro Pack in the mail.
FYI, I'd recommend just downloading the app. For the extra $$ all you get are those small 4"x5" cheesy manuals that are stapled in the middle and a DVD.

I'll be loading it up today and checking it out. Looking fwd to running the upgrade!

I'm considering buying v9 as a download, as it won't be in stores in UK for a while. However, I'm not sure the download version has everything included.

If you add any version to your shopping cart, "Home Studio Soundtrack Pack Vol. 1" is not listed in the download version.

I'm presuming that if you opted for the download version, you would have to buy the additional DVD and pay for shipping, or miss out on the Cinescore themes.

Has anyone bought just the download version? If so, is it the complete package?

If not, I don't thing SCS have been very clear in the description of what you get and what you'd miss out on.......

I just called Customer Care and was told that the download version of the Platinum Pro Pack does NOT include all of the components that are provided in the packaged version, e.g. the extra Cinescore tracks.

That's just silly.

Not a big loss because most of the extra NewBlue transiions are cheezy and I probobly wont be using any of them... I played with the Sound Forge Audio program but it doesn't compare to my Cubase 4. The only minimally decent thing is the Cinescore but the beats and samples get old pretty fast.

I was actually hoping for another video track and at least 6 audio tracks since one of the "features" is to record to 5.1 audio. It makes no sense to offer a feature that you can't do anything with. I don't do anything w/ 5.1 yet tho.

Just my humble opinion and findings... Others may have better opinions.
