VMS 9 w/ BluRay in August

I just saw this posted over on the Vegas Pro forum and thought you guys would be interested... :-)

Sounds pretty exciting. BluRay output. Sony/Pana/Canon AVCHD, including 1920 support. Cinescore Studio for royalty free soundtrack generation. (All depending on which level of VMS you buy.)

Wish there were screen shots! Just hope they haven't messed up the interface. :) I've seen that happen soooooooooo many times. I just get into using an app and then they completely change it.

I could care less about Blueray. It's still too expensive for me. But the Pro Pak has some great additions that would be nice to have.

The "MPEG-2 smart rendering format " and Cinescore Studio sounds intriguing.

The new "project wizards" sounds like it could be a disaster if there isn't a way to skip the wizards.

I like you. I agree 100%.

Indeed. I think once you get beyond the "trim this scene and render to a new file" stage, the wizards are a detriment to creativity and workflow.

The "official" SCS press release has finally been posted on this website HERE. I find it interesting that it's almost identical to THIS one posted a month ago.

But don't dare buy them just yet if you're an existing VMS owner. Wait for the newsletter with upgrade pricing.

Now that it's August 1, I would expect the July newsletter to be sent out and posted in the Newsletter section today at the latest. (He says hoping). It should explain what the upgrade pricing schedule is.
mike_in_ky wrote on 8/1/2008, 3:05 PM
The Upgrades are posted on the SCS site. Go to http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/upgrade/moviestudiope?disp=1 The Platinum download version is $54.95.
MSmart wrote on 8/1/2008, 4:04 PM
So they are. However, as with last year's VMS 8 upgrade, the July 2007 newsletter contained special upgrade pricing for the month of August. VMS was $10 off the standard upgrade price while Platinum was $15 off.

Wait for the July 2008 newsletter.

That's really good to know! I hope it turns out that way. I'm upgrading from 3.0b and, although recently evaluating 8.0d, am looking forward to upgrading to 9.0.

A few weeks ago, I had occasion to speak with a Sony Tech Support staffer in regards to a problem I was experiencing with a codec. He was the one who told me about the debut of 9.0. It was my understanding during the telephone conversation with that Sony employee that VMS 9.0 included a studio version of Cinescope. Today I downloaded the VMS 9.0 Trial version and just finished installing it. I starting looking through things and to my surprise, it does NOT include a studio version of Cinescope. It does support the Cinescope plugin, so you'll have to shell out an additional $179 to use any version of Cinescope with VMS 9.0. However, that's just my impression so far. I'm disappointed in that aspect to say the least.

Got my newsletter at 5:21PST via email. It's not posted on the newsletter page yet though.

Through August 31:

VMS standard - (Download $27.96) US $39.96. Reg. $49.95.

VMS Platinum - (Download $43.96) US $55.96. Reg. $69.95.

VMS Platinum Pro Pack - (Download $$59.96) US $71.96. Reg. $89.95.

ADDED:The email wasn't the July newsletter, but rather a "new version" notice including the special pricing. It will be interesting to see if SCS makes the offer available via the July newsletter (if and when it gets posted) or just to those who receive the "new version" email.

Updated 8/6 with download only pricing (versus shipped box).

MSmart

Do you have any info about the VMS Platinum download price which is currently listed at $54.95?
MSmart wrote on 8/1/2008, 8:55 PM
@321

The download special price is $43.96. The "Optional Shipped Components" is $12.00 +shipping. (Includes application DVD (see packaged description above for details) and printed Quick Start manuals.)

I believe Cinescore Studio is included only with the Pro Pak version as is Sound Forge Studio and transitions from Newblue FX. I think the Pro Pak is worth the extra cost - especially at the upgrade price. ;)

Thanks for your update. I just went to the SCS page that compares the capabilites of all 4 versions of Vegas and am still stumped. (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiopp/compare). The 3rd entry under "General" lists "Includes Cinescope Studio" and has a check mark by each of the non-Pro versions. That leads me to believe that Cinescope Studio is included with each of those versions. Would you agree or not? When I launch the Trial version of Platinum and look at the list of "Show me How" tutorials, the one concerning Cinescope has a link that basically says in order for those options to work, you need to have Cinescope installed.
Tim L wrote on 8/2/2008, 8:09 AM
My *guess* is that the Cinescore Studio demo would have to be downloaded separately (and I don't see it listed yet), just like the Sound Forge Studio demo would be a separate download as well.

Note that the VMSP product includes DVD Architect Studio as well, but if you want the demo you have to download DVD Arch Studio separately.

Hopefully they'll have a Cinescore Studio demo available soon.
mike_in_ky wrote on 8/2/2008, 9:09 AM
Seems sorta like a "boondoggle" if they didn't have the Cinescope Sudio plug-in ready when they released VMS 9.0. Will have to keep checking to see when/if that happens. I may call Sony on Monday to see what they say you get, what you don't get and what you have to do. Or better yet, submit a ticket with Tech Service.
mike_in_ky wrote on 8/2/2008, 9:42 AM
I just finished sending a detailed question to Sony Customer Support regarding Cinescope's inclusion (or not) in VMS 9.0. Perhaps we'll get a straight answer on Monday.
Tim L wrote on 8/2/2008, 11:32 AM
(Not to be too picky, Mike, but it's Cinescore -- as in "scoring a movie" -- not Cinescope...)

Also, I have every confidence that Cinescore Studio is included in the purchased product. They probably just haven't had time yet to put up a demo version on the website.
mike_in_ky wrote on 8/2/2008, 6:14 PM
tim l....

Sorry, yes, Cinescore (blush!!). My apology. We'll have to wait and see what response I get to my questions in that regard.
