VMS HD Platinum 11 Build 247

Roberto65 wrote on 9/7/2011, 3:28 PM
For those (like me) who downloaded and installed the latest version 247 and, as in my case, experienced a high number of program crashes (especially during the play back), please, raise a ticket to Sony.
Only if many people will complain that the Build 247 is totally unstable, we can hope that Sony will fix the bugs that were inserted from build 231 and release a new update.
I already advised them but one person is not enough.

Thanks for your support

Can you be more specific about the problems? Are they random or can you recreate them? I have the 247 Build, have implemented the 64 bit fix and also uninstalled a prior build and reinstalled to fix the help problem. I haven't had any issues with crashes or real performance issues. I've found it noticably better than VMS10.

Hi,

they are random. Generated mostly during the editing phase. My project is so far quite simple, just 8-10min with a couple of video tracks, AVCHD clips, some transitions, some simple effects, some texts here and there.
Can you tell me how did you installed the build 247?
Because, also following what other people in the forum wrote, I had to install two times: in fact, the 1st time the Help menu was not working, the 2nd time it was ok.
Maybe this was not the way to go.
Also, I installed it starting form version 231.
Did you uninstalled first the previous version and what was the previous version?
Eventually I will try to completely uninstall Vegas and re-install the build 247 again.

I had the original release on DVD. Can't remember the build #. Then I downloaded the 247 build with the updated build for DVDA. Installed over the top of the existing build. Did the 64 bit fix. Had not problems. But someone pointed out the help menu issue and sure enough I had it too. So I uninstalled VMS and reinstalled and did the 64 bit fix again. Haven't had issues yet. I'm working on a pretty complex 45 minute produection with multiple video lines, complex transitions and texts, NewBlue video fixes for color, smooting and other things, stills, and multiple audio pieces in 5.1 all with no problems editing. Even did a short video build in one comlex area to see how long it would take to make a build.

Thanks for the answer.

When I re-installed the build 247 (because of the issue with the Help menu), I did not uninstall first Vegas: I just launched the build 247 setup a 2nd time
This could be one difference.

Btw, what OS are you using?
I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits and I bought VMS 11 HD Platinum as a Download upgrade of VMS 10 HD Platinim..

Then, just to be more precise, here is the list of the files that I patched with CFF Explorer (selected the check box "App can handle > 2G address space)

1. VegasMovieStudioPE110.exe
2. vegasmoviestudiope110k.dll
3. sonymvd2pro_xp.dll
4. sonymvd2pro_x.dll (in FileIO Plug-Ins\compoundplug directory)
5. wmfplug4.dll (in FileIO Plug-Ins\wmfplug4 directory)
6. FileIOSurrogate.exe

Do you see any difference with your installation & 2GB patching ?

I'm on Win 7 Professional 64bit. I tend to buy the DVD's with my software. Call me old school. But I like the physical media. Too afraid of losing a download. I know. It's odd. Don't flame me bro!

I didn't do the 64 bit fix to #6 on your list. But I think not uninstalling and re-installing will have more to do with your problems than anything. I also found that MOV files grind things to a halt. So I usually convert them before putting them into a project. It saves me putting money into the swear jar.

No choppy, stuttering, crashes of any kind. Best of the VMS series so far!

Uninstalled and re-installed again. So far it looks absolutely stable! :-)
Thanks for everybody for the feedbacks

This thread has me scared. Just bought a new i7 2600 3.4 gig win 7 64 bit home.
I bought the upgrade to VMS 11 online today waiting for discs.
So I will get the discs in a couple days. Anything to know before I install?
What is the 64 Bit Fix?
I guess VMS isn't 64 bit?
Thanks for your help

Hello Brad,

this "64-bit fix" (which actually has nothing to do with a 64-bits version of a SW program, the name is in fact misleading) is a kind of fix that makes it possible to use more RAM memory than the limit set for 32-bits application.
There are several threads in this forum that explain what and how to do this fix: just search for "64 bit patch" or "memoryCap patch".
In a few words, you will have to download and install a small program and then, through it, open some .exe and .dll files from Vegas. Then set a specific flag that will increase the memory space available for that application/library and finally save the file.
It may sound difficult but in practice it is an easy operation, once you follow the proper thread instructions.
The result is that the SW will be much more stable when you execute the rendering of a complex project. Vice verse, without this fix, it may happen that the SW will crash.
This is one part of the story, being common to many VMS users.

Another story, is the build 247.
I had trouble with the new build 247: it caused frequent crashes during the editing phase only (not during the rendering!).
Because I bought VMS11 at the beginning of this year, the build was 220.
Upon with the varions new build delivery by Sony, I installed the build 231 first and then, when available, the build 247.
As things went worst with theis build, I uninstalled everything and installed again the build 247 alone (i.e. not on top of a previous build).
The result is that the SW is now more stable. I still saw a couple of crashes during the editing, but in total much, much less than before.

Anyway, as a conclusion, the SW works pretty well (once the 64bit fix mentioned above is done)!!
No need to be scared.

It is also to be said that my projects are about 10mins long, with AVCHD video clips, many effects & transitions (also from 3rd parties like Prodad and NewBlueFx), and a limited number of video/audio tracks (around 5-10... but only 3 or 4 heavily populated with video/audio events).
