VMS HD90 Crashes when overlapping avi files-SOLVED

BDS wrote on 2/16/2011, 12:55 AM
I got the trial version of VMS and was able to overlap the clips to provide the desired transition between 2 avi files captured by FRAPS.

Then I bought the retail version, and have not been able to do it since.

Now any time (and every time) I overlap 2 avi files for a transition (any length); when I get to that point in rendering, I get:

"Vegas Movie Studio HD has stopped working"

Checking the details - it is in - fault module name: VegasMovieStudioHD90.exe

My AVI captures are all in 2560x1600 res, and I am attempting to render final as a Vegas' default 8Mbps HD 1080-30p Video

...the frusterating part is that it worked the one time I did it with the freebie download....

I can can render in that mode if I just butt them up side by side. But not when I overlap.

Copy the .vf project file as a new file. Download, install in parallel Platinum 10, load it, and load that .vf file. Render, and see if the bug still exists. If not, upgrade.

Another idea is to perform an uninstall (Backup your project first, although the uninstall shouldn't touch those files)and then just reinstall the version from the Sony website (go to Downloads>Updates at the top of the page- this should be the same version as the trial you downloaded). Then just type in your serial number, which you got via the retail version.

Try that.

Thanks Markk,

...guess I had a goofy install of the retail. Although I remember no indicators during the retail install that grabbed my attention - it seemed to go smooth. *shrug* - maybe I didn't reboot after uninstalling the trial, and reinstalling the retail...not sure.

Doing as you suggested cleared it right up though.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear it cleared up the issue.

Have gotten a few crashes still with MS error reports listing fault module name: ntdll.dll...

So it still appears to be in the main executable, as well as the ntdll.dll library....

Ugh!

[EDIT:] After reviewing the the registers in the error message above, I decided to apply the "Large Address" fix as described in this thread --

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=697122&Replies=58

...applying the fix only to the files:

VegasMovieStudioPE90.exe, VegasMovieStudioPE90k.dll, wmfplug4.dll

...and was able to render a full 8:03 video.

* keeps fingers crossed*

Thanks again everyone for the help.

You could try this: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=727069&Replies=9

And if that doesn't work, then try the trial of Platinum 10 as I mentioned above. If that doesn't work either, then transcode the FRAPS codec to something else. I remember FRAPS and Vegas not playing along in the past anyway.
