VMS Platinum 17 Update 221 Will Not Install

Just as I was beginning to think I should abandon VMS Platinum 17 due to multiple crashes while editing (credit rolls, adding media, moving events, etc.) I received notice that update 221 was available to fix many such problems. I downloaded the update, but it will not install. The installation program displays an error message that it cannot update Vegas Movie Studio while it is running... but it is not running.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Rebooting solved the issue. I guess with all the crashes, there were fragments still in memory or temp files that made the installer think VMS was still running.
