VMS Platinum 9 Under Vista 64

Is anybody using VMS Platinum 9 under 64-bit Vista?

I've used it a lot under XP, but after upgrading to Vista it won't install properly.

I get a message that DirectX 9 is needed, offering to download and install it. If I elect to install it, I get an error message after awhile, reading "requirements not met".

I posted a technical service request, and they suggested setting up a new user account with Admin privileges and installing into that (my normal account has Admin privileges). That didn't work. In the meantime the time limit expired on the tech service request, so I reposted. When I checked yesterday, the question had disappeared!!!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yes, it runs fine under Vista-64. But there is a fix you have to apply. Here's a previous post I made:

This fix, posted in the Vegas Pro forum, also works on Vegas Movie Studio Ver. 9b:

My system is Vista-64 on an i7 processor with 6GB RAM. Vegas MS crashed consistently when trying to render AVCHD files with 5.1 surround sound. After doing this fix it renders fine.

I can't verify if it will also work on 32-bit systems, but the messages in the thread suggest that it will. Here's hoping Sony will incorporate this fix into the next release of Vegas MS (and all the other versions too.)

The fix tells the Vegas software that it is running on a 64-bit system and this makes all the difference. You'll need to DL/install a special utility to make the fix, but I had no problem with that.

Thanks, Birk, I'll try that.

Did you have the same installation problem I'm describing before applying the fix?

No, it installed fine for me with no problems at all. But as noted in my post, it crashed regularly during rendering HD with 5.1 surround sound. I mean every time. But the fix fixed it.

I sure hopy Sony incorporates that fix in the next version....(is anyone listening??)

OK, I managed to get it installed more or less by luck. I had to use the *_enu.msi file instead of the *.enu.exe file for installation. Who knows why.

I haven't had any trouble with crashing so far, but I'll keep a copy of your fix in case I do!

Thanks again.
