VMS Platinum 9 vs Vegas Pro 9

I am thinking about moving up to Vegas Pro. I understand that Vegas Pro has unlimited number of tracks, which will come in handy. Any other advantages of having Vegas Pro?

Also upgrading to Vegas Pro 9 is not cheap. Is it possible to upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 instead? I don't think I will be using many of the new features in Pro 9.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Since the current version is Pro 9 you can't upgrade to Pro 8 from Sony. I think the only possible way would be from some user who is willing to transfer his Pro 8 license to you. How much it would cost is between the two of you.

There are more differences than just the number of tracks .. things like multi-camera edit mode, 3-D track motion control, and the ability to run "scripts" to make complex, repetitive tasks easier.

When Sony announces a new version there is usually a limited time special introductory upgrade price. I *think* it also applies to upgrading from VMS ..but not the same low price as upgrading from Pro of course .. however it should be cheaper than the "normal" upgrade price from VMS that you would have to pay now.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone who's already upgraded to Pro 9 and is willing to transfer the Pro 8 license? Obviously the price will have to be low enough since I won't be able to enjoy the benefit of upgrade discount in the future.

What's the proper protocol to follow for the transfer?

Can you ?
I'd be surprised.
Then you could buy Pro 9 at the upgrade price.
With SoundForge you have to switch iLoks or transfer the serial from one computer to another if you want to use it on a second computer.
But it doen'st switch names and registrations AFAIK.

What's iLoks?

I've got Sound Forge, Vegas, ACID, DVDA, etc. all installed on 3 computers at home. I've only got one serial number for each. All that was required was to run the activation on each one. No transfers or anything else required.

SONY Creative Software allows transfers of licenses. If the license hasn't been used for upgrading then the new owner may get the upgrade price by using that license.
