VMS Platinum number of clips limit?

Hello
I have just returned from Las Vegas with 6 tapes of 25i HDV shot with my HDR-HC1E. When I captured the tapes with VMS Platinum 6 I had no problem but I decided to try HDV Split to divide the files into clips for easier editing.
Now when I try to import the resulting hundreds of clips all goes OK until I get to about 75 clips then I get an error message saying the system is low on memory (P4 3.0GHz 1GB RAM) and all clips which would bring the total over this figure do not import. VMS then crashes no matter whether you attempt to close it or continue. (Attempting to continue will need a forced reboot)
I have tried restarting VMS before importing more clips and also restarting the PC to no avail.
More RAM may help but there are 236 clips on Tape 1 so I doubt that even 4GB would be enough.
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?
Does this happen with DV projects with scene detection?

The answer to the last question is no. I have recaptured all tapes in PAL DV WS. 883 clips without an error.
I suspect the lack of scene detection in HDV capture is not an accident. It increases the demand on computer resources too much to be practical so they left it out. It would work for small projects only.

Malcom,
There has been a reported issue in Vegas 6 (pro version) of too many clips being an issue. I would assume the same issue might carry over into VMS, but no certainty. That issue has been fixed in Vegas 6d, but I don't believe an update for VMS has been issued. Maybe tech support at Sony can offer some additional insight.

Thank you Douglas. I will try that

Please let the rest of us know how this turns out. Do they tell you that a point release is coming or do they tell you to buy more RAM (if that fixes the problem).

Sony tech support advise me to uninstall 6.0 and upgrade to 6.0a.
I have this but have resisted doing so until now because of all the problems reported with 6.0a.
Can anyone tell me whether these problems make it not worth it.
I can avoid my problem by not using HDVSplit and having large files.
Will I need to get new activation codes if I uninstall before upgrading as they suggest.
I also wonder whether this issue is actually fixed by 6.0a or they have just jumped on the fact that I do not have the latest version.
Could someone with 6.0a installed please test to see whether they can import a large number of HDV clips?
