Hi,

Cinescore (not only the plugin but the whole software) was unfortunately dropped end of 2009.

Yes, but the Insert/generated music menu item is still there - and Cinescore still comes up.

"Cinescore Software Discontinued
As of December 31, 2009, Cinescore software and Theme Packs are no longer available for purchase from Sony Creative Software. Cinescore continues to create exciting soundtracks worldwide, but it's time to move forward. We're currently developing next generation music creation technology and the discontinued version of Cinescore will be the last.
For information on current Sony Creative Software music creation tools, please see the ACID product family."

As of yet, they haven't really hinted at what the "next generation" of music creation technology might be.

SmartSound (SonicFire Pro) had sued Sony several years ago regarding a patent on creating music (from short blocks of music) to automatically fit a given length. It's purely speculation on my part, but I think dropping Cinescore was probably required by some legal settlement. But again, that is strictly my speculation, and it is not backed up by anything I've read anywhere. Just pure, wild speculation.

Now VMS10 has 1G of additional soundtrack download - if it's not Cinescore, which judging from the above I guess it can't be, does anyone know what form that's in and how to use it? Just put it on the audio track? Or does VMS10 still include the discontinued Cinescore?

These are mp3 files.

Ivan,

Can you elaborate on the types of soundtracks available and how they can be used? Are they Smartsound-like (more realistic?) or Cinescore-like (electronic/keyboard-based)?
Ivan Lietaert wrote on 6/9/2010, 6:42 AM
The soundtracks are realistic smartsound-like mp3 files. There are about 20 folders, each in a typical music style (from dance over new age to acoustic and classic), each containing about 20 variations on the theme, with various lengths too.
As the cinescore plugin is missing, I think I will use the Acid 7 free version to make my own compositions.

I think they are really worth the download, much more than the 1001 sound effects.

That sounds good. I wonder if that is going to be the basis of their next gen music generator....
