VMS6 Plat- Capture DV Using external program

Sorry guys, I'm a S10 convert. It captured video automatically. I'm trying to capture DV from Canon Xi in 16:9. When I capture using "external video capture application" as recommended- Windows media captures my video. I don't understand why I can't have VMS6 capture Dv for me. Also, does VMS6 Plat sense that my dv is 16:9 or do I have to set that up in preferences?

Thanks in advance...
joem

i'm still on vms4 and the capture works fine with my panasonic pc-dv953 and the 16:9 video is recognized automatically. i use vms4's capture utility. btw, you do need to set your project properties to widescreen or else you will get letterboxed video in a 4:3 frame..

thanks allyn. I want to have VMS6 + plat capture dv for me but when I pick external program does that mean that I have to pick other programs to capture with?. The only editing program I have is VMS6 + plat.
The files were captured by Movie Maker ( Windows Program )when I answered "yes" to external program. I shoot exclsusively in 16:9 widescreen using my Canon Xi. I guess I would have to set preferences in Movie Maker?
Can anyone tell me how I can have VMS6 + plat capture dv for me.
Am I doing okay capturing with Movie aker?

Thanks ....joem

Not an VMS expert, but you capture with a separate application which is included and installed during normal installation, but you can set it to use another app if you want (such as Scenalayzer). You set it in Options->Preferences, Video tab, "Prefered video capture application", and it should something like "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio 6.0\VidCap60.EXE" and was set correct when I installed VMS.
