VMS6 - render audio & video separately? (No AC3)

For the last couple of years I've been rendering Video & Audio separately in VMS8 and Vegas 8, to MPEG-2 and AC-3 to bring into DVD Architect Studio.

My sister however, is on VMS 6.0 which apparently doesn't have AC-3 support (seems like it was a feature of VMS 7).

Question: Should she still render Audio & Video separately for DVDA? If yes, which format should the audio be rendered in?

The reason I couldn't answer the question I guess is because I don't understand the reason why audio & video is rendered separately in the first place...

The DVD spec has them separately, so it's normal to have them like that. You can always render the video with a DVD template, and then export in WAV for audio, and then have DVDA re-encode the audio in AC3.
